OUR STORY
We’re Derek and Diana, building a life on our acreage in the Kootenays with our horses, dogs, chickens, ducks, cats, garden, and all the beautiful chaos that comes with rural living. After years in real estate and a move from the coast to a small-town acreage, we began to see wealth differently — not just as money, but as land, peace, skills, freedom, resilience, and control over how we live.
The Wealthy Acre was born from that shift: a place to share the honest realities of acreage living, homesteading, real estate, animals, and building a more intentional life rooted in something real.
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately….
Henry David Thoreau
There are two spiritual dangers in not owning a farm. One is the danger of supposing that breakfast comes from the grocery, and the other that heat comes from the furnace
Aldo Leopold
